Crystal Tower
Sept., 2008
50 inches (127cm) tall
Crystals, Plexiglas, high-power-LEDs
Outdoor/indoor
This work has a triangular column shape, in which the interior is lined with crystals grown by the artist. The crystals are made to flare by a high-power-LED at the bottom. The open top emits a triangular ray of light onto the wall and ceiling. If this top is closed, then water may be run causing this ray of light to flicker. In addition to the light passing through the crystals, sparkles of reflected lights are generated by artificial diamonds as well as mirrored glass beads scattered among the crystals.
Reflecting my background in earth science, the crystals are arranged in organic and earthly patterns that resemble sedimentary features.
As variants, this can be made into round, square, or hexagon columns.
Currently on display at Creative Art Glass Inc, Toronto ( http://www.creativeartglass.com). Pls contact them before visiting.
